The outstanding Robin Trower on lead guitar! That’s how it’s done, kiddies!
Nobody i mean nobody will ever make music like this ever again 60 n 70 was a time we will always cherish n hold dear god bless rock n roll n 2 all my brothers n sisters PEACE !
Probably the most poetic rock song ever…..
Trower just tears up that guitar in this song!
I was 19 in '72, this great classic & Whiter Shade Of Pale, are the only two songs of theirs that I can remember hearing on the radio. But what two great songs to listen too!♡ Excellent work Mike!♡
Listen to their album "Shine on Brightly "
Genius.
Encore! 🔥
I have not heard this in oh…. Sooooooo Long !
Classic!
Great voice!
and though you came with sword held high you did not conquer, only die
I WAS 15 WHEN THIS SONG WAS RELEASED, I LOVED IT THEN AND I STILL LOVE IT NOW. !
JUNE 2019
And though you came with sword of iron.
You did not conquer.
Only die. The waves of history keep crashing in the same way…. war. Great video and the cd is great, as well along with all the rest of the p.h. music.
An absolute Epic creation!! Timeless Relevant meaningful Class!!
This band had a "presence" other groups could never achieve! PS
A Masterpiece. Historically inaccurate but superb music. Conquistadors did conquer and enslaved Mexico. Millions of Aztecs died at the blade but mostly of disease. Mercenaries who were very well armed and had tanks, ie horses.
There is no place on earth that has introduced me to more little-known but fantastic music than Munrows Retro. I knew that Procol Harum was more than a One-Hit Wonder re: Whiter Shade of Pale, but have come across little of their other work. This was outrageously good – thank you again!!
Im in my 40s and just heard this song for the first time yesterday on the radio on my way to work. I feel like it unlocked something inside me. Thank you, mr NPR morning DJ.
Conquistador your stallion stands in need of company
And like some angel's haloed brow
You reek of purity
I see your armour-plated breast has long since lost its sheen
And in your death mask face
There are no signs which can be seen
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
Conquistador a vulture sits upon your silver shield
And in your rusty scabbard now
The sand has taken seed
And though your jewel-encrusted blade has not been plundered still
The sea has washed across your face
And taken of its fill
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
Conquistador there is no time
I must pay my respect
And though I came to jeer at you
I leave now with regret
And as the gloom begins to fall
I see there is no aureole
And though you came with sword held high
You did not conquer, only die
And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
